Bride + Groom

Nick wrote a cute little something about us, how we met and what makes us super awesome:

:)

Carrie and I first met at new employee orientation while working for Enterprise. I was a hot-shot pretty boy who had just ended a year long stint working at Bahama Breeze in Livonia (whatever it takes, man!) Carrie was a boisterous firecracker who had just spent the last year travelling the country going from one college campus to another in a sales role. Its funny how fate works because upon seeing one another, we both thought we had met before. In fact, Carrie was so convinced she knew me from Ann Arbor, whenever there was a break in training, she grilled me on all the possible people we might mutually know. I had yet to identify her drive and determination to find answers, so I naturally thought she was hitting on me. I am still not sure till this day.

Our friendship grew as we worked at Enterprise. We had the same group of friends and definitely the same last-one-to-leave-the-party mentality, so we spent lots of time together. As Carrie blossomed before my eyes, I become conscious of what a remarkable person she was. I sought to become more than friends.

Unbeknownst to her, I hatched a plan.

At the time we both had many single friends, I kept on suggesting “perfect matches” for her friends out of my goofy pool of fellers. I figured the more double dates we went on, the more time my irresistible charm would have to work on her. The problem was that these “perfect matches” were actually incredibly terrible matches and although Carrie and I would have fun together, it was usually counteracted by the awkward silence at the other end of the table. Finally after another double date fiasco, the girl in question realized something was afoot. She pulled Carrie aside and pointed out that the only real constant on these dates was Carrie and I having a great time together. Something must have clicked with Carrie because soon after we went on our first real date.

So let’s fast forward. Fast forward past roller coasters at Michigan’s Adventure, rope burns on Nelson’s boat in Grosse Ile, me realizing the hard way that Carrie doesn’t like to be tickled and the ultimate pizza and key lime pie quest. Fast forward past MSU/UM showdowns, hedge diving after the Gallagher show, the secret cruise that ended up broadcast on the radio, the amazing Arcadia cottage and SYTYCD concerts. Keep on going past the Vitale/Nutcracker surprise, sweaty dancing nights at Q/Monkey Bar/Club 9, the birth of her nephews, wine pairing parties, Halloween parties, sauce parties, movie premier parties, Enterprise formal parties, tailgates and Mr. Cream. Fast forward through the rough patches and the tears, the laughter, jeers and realization of fears, even fast forward past the making up.

Welcome to the present. Carrie and I have realized over the years how much we love each other. We’ve become better people because of one another. She is the most beautiful, sensitive, intuitive, witty and sincere person I have ever met. I have encouraged and witnessed Carrie following her dreams and she has done the same with me. She understands the Nick Schultz I am and the Nick Schultz I want to be better than anyone ever has. I can not wait to marry this girl!

Welcome to the present. Welcome to the beginning of our new journey. We are thrilled that you can join with us in the festivities.

Interesting Facts about Nick and Carrie

In 1996 our high schools (Gabriel Richard/Lake Odessa) played for the state championship in girl’s volleyball. A game which Carrie and I both attended.

When we dated at Enterprise, we had to keep our relationship a secret because we worked at the same office. To go on vacation together, Nick had to fabricate a fake trip to Las Vegas.

Before the engagement scavenger hunt, Carrie routinely said that Nick “could never trick her again.”

Nick and Carrie think the perfect pizza topping is pepperoni and banana peppers.

One of Nick’s favorite desserts is when Carrie makes her famous “poke and pour” cake.

Carrie hates pickles but has never tried one.

They both love beets. Who knew?

On their flight back from Mexico, Nick was detained by air marshals and briefly kept in a holding cell at the Texas airport because there exists an international criminal with the same name.

Nick owns (and wears) a pink cowboy hat.

Carrie has a white tree tattoo branching out on her wrist.
